Head to the beach - of Old Town Temecula  - that is -  this Friday, July 29,  for Reggae tunes from the Califarians,  unique So-Cal Rock beach tunes from Safety Orange,  classic rock by the Two of Us and  western from Older than Dirt. The music starts at 6 p.m. with some bands playing 7 to 10 p.m.  

            The Califarians feature the founding drummer of "Slightly Stoopid" (Adam Bausch), former guitarist of "The English Beat" (HK), and former bassist of "Big Mountain" (Shamus Daley). Creating a buzz in Southern California clubs, the band mixes a blend of Old School Roots Reggae Rhythms with Hip-Hop and Reggae Drum Beats. They play at Baily's Courtyard  from 7 to 10 p.m.

            Safety Orange is a Beach Band   started by Harry Elmore and Sol Turpin as a fun after Surf activity. After a couple house parties it became a lifetime passion for Sol. Through the years the band has changed lineups, but the music has always stayed true to the original fun beach vibe -  Beach Rock,  a blend of rock, reggae, rap, punk, and Ska.

"Safety Orange played Temecula for the first time last year at Hot Summer Nights. They were definitely one of the most popular "new" bands for last year," stated event promoter Melody Brunsting.

Old Town Temecula Bluegrass Festival with Great Concert Line up!

Temecula's 11th Annual Bluegrass Festival has two great evening concerts this year. Friday features The Grascals, recent winners of the Instrumental Group of the Year at the Annual SPBMAA. They play March 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the Old Town Temecula Community Theater.


The Grascals also have their personal best Billboard chart numbers, with the current #1 Top Bluegrass Album (four consecutive weeks) and peaking at #23 on the Top Country Album chart with their newest CD, "The Grascals & Friends - Country Classics with a Bluegrass Spin." The Grascals have also won awards the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Emerging Artist of the Year award in 2005 and earning its Entertainer of the Year honor in both 2006 and 2007.

The Grascals embody a profound grasp of and familiarity with country and bluegrass tradition that made them a natural choice for Dolly Parton to turn to for recording and tour support in 2004. The group continues to push the envelope and, in 2010, The Grascals joined The Rowdy Friends Tour with Hank Williams, Jr. They’ve performed at the Grand Ole Opry, Kennedy Center, Radio City Music Hall, Wintergrass, and the Stagecoach Festival. TheByron Berline Band, the Hunt Family Band and Bluegrass Etc. will highlight the 11th annual event March 19 and 20. Daytime concerts both Saturday and Sunday are free. Paid evening concerts are held indoors at the acoustically perfect Old Town Temecula Community Theater and are paid events.

Saturday's free concert lineup includes Silverado Bluegrass, Sligo Rags, The Girlz, Fine Line and Next Generation on stage, plus Older than Dirt near Rosa's Cantina. A jam session will be held at 5 p.m. at Embassy Suites, the host hotel for the event.

Saturday evening at the theater will feature the Byron Berline Band, Bluegrass Etc and Silverado in concert in the theater. The concert starts at 7 p.m. and is $15. There is a Friday/Saturday concert package that reduces the convenience fee for online purchases.

Sunday's free concerts include Byron Berline, Bluegrass Etc., Silverado, Bluegrass Brethren, Windy Ridge, The Hunt Family Bluegrass, Sligo Rags and The Girlz.

Byron Berline is a three-time National Fiddle Champion who turned to a musical career after earning a B.A. in Physical Education at the University of Oklahoma. Berline has a Who’s Who list of bands that he has either led or been a member. They include: Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys, Dillard & Clark, Dillard Expedition, Berline, Crary & Hickman, California, and the Byron Berline Band. He’s recorded with The Band, The Byrds, The Eagles, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, John Denver, Elton John, Linda Ronstadt, Rod Stewart, Vince Gill, Arlo Guthrie, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Earl Scruggs and
Mason Williams."Pickers" (Bluegrassers’ term for musicians) jam anywhere along the rustic streets of Old Town Temecula.

“It’s the greatest part about a bluegrass festival. Fans are also musicians, some of them quite good and notable in the music world,” stated Melody Brunsting, organizer of the event. “We’ve had Sara Watkins of Nickel Creek show up on our stage just to jam with Bluegrass Etc. before.”

Free workshops Saturday and Sunday are held in the Mercantile and help instigate the free flow of jamming around town. Band members lead the workshops and provide the audience a chance to pick and play with their favorites. On Saturday Dennis Caplinger of Bluegrass Etc will teach a workshop on Banjo, David Burns fro Sligo Rags will teach flat pick guitar, and Byron Berline will teach fiddle. Sunday workshops include "The Family Band" with the Hunt Family Band, Mandolin with John Moore from Bluegrass Etc., and the Bodhrain with Andy Reilly of Sligo Rags.

Franklin Haynes Marionettes, Santa and Ice Skating this weekend in Old Town Temecula

Franklin Haynes Marionettes will offer two free shows of their colorful hand-made wooden puppets on Saturday, December 4. Performances will be at 1:30 and 3 p.m. near Front and Main Streets at the Rosa’s alcove. The puppets will perform their special holiday-themed show designed for kids of all ages. Bring blankets or towels to sit on the floor next to the puppeteer.

Ice Skating on the Square continues in Old Town Temecula. The 3,500 square foot ice rink is open 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. through January 2, 2011. Skating sessions are $10 for one hour and sessions are subject to availability. Winterfest in Old Town Temecula with Ice Skating, Santa and New Year's Eve

Santa Claus is coming to town and he’s bringing a 50x70 foot Ice Skating Rink for the Temecula Valley with him, Friday, November 26.

It’s WinterFest in Old Town Temecula and it all starts at 10 a.m. Friday with the opening of the Ice Skating Rink at Town Square at Main and Mercedes Streets. A special opening ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m. and includes Mayor Jeff Comerchero, Councilmember Maryann Edwards, Lake Elsinore Storm Thunder and ice skater Lindsay Davis. Davis won the bronze medal at the Junior Ladies 2010 AT&T U.S. Figure Skating Championships.

The ice rink has grown to a 3500 square foot icy cool surface of fun and will be open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. through January 2, 2011. Last year’s rink was 2400 square feet. Private sessions can be reserved for businesses, churches, sports groups, and non-profit organizations. These sessions must be booked at least 24 hours in advance. Santa Claus, the big man for the season, arrives at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, aboard a horse drawn carriage. He will be accompanied by Dickens Carolers and a horse drawn trolley. Rides on the trolley are free throughout the evening.

Santa’s workshop is new this year and an Eagle Project for Tommy Byrnes who coordinated a team of volunteers to do the artistic work of faux painting, elves, snowmen and décor. Santa will be located at Town Square at the east end of Main every Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Boy Scout troops take souvenir pictures for a donation. This year the grapes will descend from the new Civic Center at Main and Mercedes.

With three bands, dancing, ice skating, and East and West Coast countdowns to midnight, Old Town’s New Year’s Eve is designed for families to enjoy the tradition of welcoming the New Year together. Free activities for the kids include Dynamite Dave’s crazy balloons, face painting and a party jump. Kids activities are scheduled from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Ice Rink is also open for regular sessions until midnight

Beatle's Tribute "Help!" for Last Hot Summer Night Friday

Classic rock, dance bands, and HELP, the Beatles Tribute band that toured through Temecula’s Hot Summer Nights last year, will close out the 10-week concert series, Friday, September 3. Bands performing include Open Road, The BASH, L.A. Accident, and Older than Dirt. There will also be a party jump for the kids.


HELP! features all the Beatles’ hits from early 60s to the White Album, Magical Mystery Tour and solo work not usually played by Beatles bands. The members of Help! perform everything live, no tapes or sequencers. Dressed in Sgt. Pepper, Nehru and black suits to give the feel of an authentic Beatles performance, the band has performed throughout Southern California. HELP! will play at Baily’s Courtyard from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The LA Accident showcases the smooth, wide-range vocals of Luke Andrews with an edgy and funky band that creates an irresistible fusion of funk, pop, and rock. With genuine musicianship and taste for melodic guitar riffs and solos, The LA Accident is not just another pop/rock band. With meaningful lyrics, the band performs music that everyone can relate to. There are no "accidents", things just fall into place. L.A. Accident will play at Temecula Valley Cheese Company.

Open Road first caught the eye of Summer Nights fans on August 6. Led by Kenneth Rice, this band is classified as “jazz” on Amazon.com but they consider their sound as “smoothing out the classics.” That would be classic rock with everything from Bob Seeger to Van Morrison and the Beatles. They will play in front of the Old Town Smoke Shop on Old Town Front Street from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

THE BASH encompasses a unique collection of musical talent with experience dating back to the late 1970s. They bring together classically trained musicians and players with harder edged pop and rock backgrounds. This allows the band to adeptly cover R&B, jazz, blues, and even bluegrass. Catch this band next to the Palomar Hotel.

Shake what yo mamma gave you this Friday in Old Town Temecula - Free Concerts

Chicago Blues, Rockin’ Blues, and swinging blues are the theme for Friday, August 20, during Hot Summer Nights in Old Town Temecula. From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., regional favorite blues bands will perform free concerts.

The Bill Magee Blues Band will play at Temecula Valley Cheese Company. Hoodoo Blues plays at Sweet Lumpy’s and Aunt Kizzy’z Boyz play at Baily’s Courtyard. Duchicela, the unique band that plays music of the Andes featuring Victor Leon will play at Villa di Calabro.

This is the last Aunt Kizzy’z Boyz concert this summer in Old Town. Bandleader Jimmy King on vocals, harp and guitar formed the Aunt Kizzy’z Boyz after sitting in with top musicians from Santana and Joe Cocker’s band. Vocalist Sugaray became interested in music while attending church, infusing a strong gospel style to his singing. He is known for his high energy and ability to get the entire crowd enthusiastically involved. Other members include Dwane Hathorn on drums, Joe Schiavone on bass guitar, Michael Mack on keyboard, and Bastos Moenho “Moe” on percussion.

Bill Magee’s Blues Band has been voted best blues band in San Diego by the San Diego Music Association and the “Reader” magazine. Magee offers a New York/Chicago style of blues that is electrifying and reflects his passion for the blues. He has played with greats B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed, Otis Redding, John Lee Hooker and Bo Didley. Magee also spent several years on the road with the James Brown Revue.

Hoodoo Blues takes the stage at Sweet Lumpy’s from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Formed in 1999 Hoodoo Blues has opened for national acts Guitar Shorty and B.J. Sharp.

Sligo Rags, Safety Orange & Two of Us This Friday in Temecula

TEMECULA, CA – The sounds of Summer are Hot in Old Town Temecula this Friday, the 13th, and to throw a little Irish Luck into the mix, Sligo Rags will make one last appearance in Old Town Temecula for 2010. Named among the top acoustic bands in Los Angeles by “Folkworks Magazine,” Sligo Rags returns to Baily’s Courtyard from 6 to 9 p.m.


Sligo Rags is an energized four-piece Irish band that defies genre definitions despite their obvious Celtic overtones. Led by vocalists David Burns and Michael Kelly, backed by bass player Gordon Rustvold, and enhanced by the percussion stylings of Andy Reilly, Sligo Rags captivates audiences with their original and traditional Irish and folk tunes that take on a suspicious rock/bluegrass edge.

Safety Orange is a Southern California Beach Rock Reggae band that often plays House of Blues, Molly Malone’s and Longboard Grill in San Diego. The Band was started as a fun after Surf activity. Avid surfers themselves, the sound is reggae rock beach lifestyle oriented mixing high-energy guitar riffs with down tempo reggae rhythms.

Safety Orange has two albums and performs at everything from X Games to opening slots with Slightly Stoopid, Sprung Monkey, Blink 182, Ween, and Buck o Nine. Safety Orange will play at Sweet Lumpy’s.

While Temecula kids may be back in school, they can shake off the blues with a party jump and by playing soccer against the Soccer Collies. Human versus canine go head to toe and paw to hand in an all-out battle of speed and agility. Soccer Collies do all the running while human competitors try to stop very determined, highly skilled soccer playing canine athletes from scoring a goal. The “Soccer Collies” hail from Orange County and are goal specialists. Children are encouraged to play against the collies while learning tips on training and caring for the family pet. The Soccer Collies will take up camp at Town Square on Main Street. Dynamite Dave will also be in Old Town making his balloon creations.

Headlining the Hot Summer Nights July 30 lineup is Nitro Express, a country-rock band that blends strong harmonies, virtuoso musicianship and a strong beat whether playing rock, bluegrass, R&B or country. The band averages 200 performances a year playing at casinos and clubs from Southern California to Arizona and Nevada. They will play from 6 to 9 p.m. at Baily’s Courtyard.

The “Sixes” is a rock/blues band comprised of three local talented musicians; John Leclerc on lead guitar and vocals, Adam Moore on the bass and lead vocals, and Spencer Smith on drums. Playing a range of cover tunes, some might remember John Leclerc best as a solo blues guitarist. The band will play at Sweet Lumpy’s from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Speaking of blues, Hoodoo Blues takes the stage at Old Town Plaza from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Formed in 1999 Hoodoo Blues has opened for national acts Guitar Shorty and B.J. Sharp. Well known for infectious rhythms and a blend of blues, swing, funk and rock, Hoodoo Blues has been featured at numerous San Diego venues and festivals.

With an average age of 72, Older than Dirt charms audiences with their country licks, washboard and gut bucket rhythm, and basic love for music. Older than Dirt is a band of five to seven musicians that take pride in their name and uniqueness. They’ll be performing at their favorite location, in front of the Old Town Smoke Shop on Front Street near Rosa’s Cantina.

Also on Friday, July 30 are Dynamite Dave and Deejay Geoffrey Gaier with fun for families. Dynamite Dave creates a variety of balloon hats, animals, and toys while Gaier will challenge guests with trivia, bubble gum contests and hula hoop contests.

The Cure for the Summer Time Blues –Hot Summer Nights in Old Town Temecula with Bill Magee

Grey skies at the beach might be the cause for the blues. But, in Old Town Temecula Hot Summer Nights are heating up with a pair of “Blues” bands, some classic rock and the “take-me-away” sounds of Duchicela.

Friday, July 16, features The Bill Magee Blues Band, L.A. Jones & the Blues Messenger, Duchicela, and the classic rock cover band Two of Us Plus 1.

L.A. Jones and The Blues Messengers represent a new breed from the old school of the blues; crossing spiritual and musical boundaries and pioneering a style that is all their own. The band blends popular jump swing of the great Texas and West Coast traditions with 1950’s Chicago Blues traditions. This energized blues band will play at the Old Town Plaza at the corner of Old Town Front and Moreno.

Bill Magee’s Blues Band has been voted best blues band in San Diego by the San Diego Music Association and the “Reader” magazine. Magee offers a New York/Chicago style of blues that is electrifying and reflects his passion for the blues. He has played with greats B.B King, Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed, Otis Redding, John Lee Hooker and Bo Didley. Magee also spent several years on the road with the James Brown Revue. His band will play at the Baily’s Courtyard on Old Town Front Street from 6-9 p.m.

Duchicela, a popular Andes Pan Flute Band in Hawaii, will return to Old Town Temecula at Villa di’ Calabro’s patio on Main Street. Using handmade wooden flutes, drums and rain sticks, this unique band recreates popular tunes, jazz and rock, into a new age retreat from the world.

Be sure to stop by Fourth and Front Street to play a little trivia and games with Deejay Geoffrey Gaier. Dynamite Dave will be creating his uniquely “you” balloon creations.

Aunt Kizzy'z Boyz, Silver Beatles and Guilty Conscience open Hot Summer Nights in Temecula

Take a Friday Night vacation from the work week in Old Town Temecula during Hot Summer Nights, July 9 through September 3, 2010. The weekly Friday night series of entertainment and music is part of the City of Temecula’s Summerfest promotion that began with the Temecula Valley Balloon & Wine Festival June 4th and finishes with Labor Day Weekend.

Hot Summer Nights opens July 9, 6 to 9 p.m., with a musically-charged line up of Aunt Kizzy’z Boyz, The Silver Beatles, Guilty Conscience and Diego playing at different locations in Old Town.

Aunt Kizzy’z Boyz, a rocking blues band that packs Old Town Temecula every year, returns to the Old Town Front Street Bar & Grill (Baily’s Courtyard from 6 to 9 p.m.) The concert is free.

Bandleader Jimmy King on vocals, harp and guitar formed the Aunt Kizzy’z Boyz after sitting in with top musicians from Santana and Joe Cocker’s band. Vocalist Sugaray became interested in music while attending church, infusing a strong gospel style to his singing. He is known for his high energy and ability to get the entire crowd enthusiastically involved. Other members include Dwane Hathorn on drums, Joe Schiavone on bass guitar, Michael Mack on keyboard, and Bastos Moenho “Moe” on percussion.

The Silver Beatles will play at the Old Town Plaza at Old Town Front Street and Moreno. The Silver Beatles, a southern California Beatles tribute band, provides an uncanny reproduction of the sounds of the Beatles. This talented band, takes the audience on an audio “Magical Mystery Tour” visiting the entire Beatles repertoire along the way. They play from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Guilty Conscience will be playing at Temecula Cheese Company on Front Street at Fifth from 6-9 p.m. A multi-talented band that can play top 40 tunes and favorite rock tunes from the past, Guilty Conscience was so popular at previous Hot Summer Nights spectators raised tips to convince the band to play another set.
