Outdoor Quilt Show October 2 in Old Town Temecula

Quilters and fans of the Americana craft can preview the 12th Annual Temecula Outdoor Quilt Show this weekend in Old Town Temecula. A Quilt Walk featuring quilts in 21 Old Town Temecula stores begins September 17 and continues through October 2. Quilts have been chosen to uniquely complement each participating store. Maps and artist descriptions of the quilts can be found at participating merchants in Old Town Temecula or at http://www.temeculacalifornia.com/

The annual Quilt Show on October 2 will feature hundreds of hand-made quilts, displayed on banisters, eaves and walls of Old Town Temecula. The event is produced by the Valley of the Mist Quilt Guild and includes guest quilter Julia Zgliniec, a special quilt show on October 1 featuring Zgliniec, a live- auction on Saturday, October 2 and a boutique.

Zgliniec, a certified quilt appraiser, will be the Guest Quilter during the show, doing quilt appraisals by appointment and for a fee. She will also be the featured speaker Friday, October 1, 6:30 p.m., at the Temecula Community Center, 28816 Pujol Street. Zgliniec will discuss the value of quilts, how they are appraised and when family heirlooms should be insured. An opportunity drawing will be held for a free verbal appraisal and a free written appraisal that will be part of the evening’s activities. Bring a quilt to be eligible for that drawing. The evening will also include refreshments and opportunities to win themed raffle baskets put together by guild members. Admission tickets are $15.

Old Town Temecula's Outdoor Quilt Show draws spectators from all over Southern California. Many of the visitors are quilters who examine the pieces for their design and patterns as well as artistry. Quilts will be on display October 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and cover the six blocks of Old Town Front Street.

Small quilts will be on sale near the Old Town Temecula Community Theater courtyard on Saturday. There will also be a Guild Boutique in the Theater’s Dance Room. A large quilt live auction will take place at 1:00 p.m. The auction proceeds will benefit local charities. For information visit their website at http://www.valleyofthemistquilters/.com or email votmq@yahoo.com or call (951) 693-3952. Volunteers are welcome and needed to help hang the quilts before the event.

Every Friday night at Pennypickle’s Workshop/Temecula Children’s Museum, children and their parents can enjoy science adventures from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. For information visit http://www.pennypickles.org./
